Bank Holiday sunshine at Cardingmill Valley in beautiful Shropshire where Sherlock encountered sheep for the first time. He says they are tasty snack dispensers. I have a feeling DI Imogen Evans might find a body here one day…

Things I have loved this week:

1. Currently reading Whatever Happened to Nina by Dervla McTiernan, a fantastic missing persons thriller that is not so much a whodunnit as a willttheygetawaywithit.

2. Sunshine. Finally!!!

3. Civil War. I’ve been an Alex Garland fan for... a very long time but this blew me away. Utterly gripping and chilling. Good soundtrack too.

4. The new Dua Lipa album, Radical Optimism. Not as many bangers as Future Nostalgia but it’s still very very good. The kind of high-energy record I love writing to.

What were your highlights?

There are signed copies of The Darkest Water and a few of my other books in Waterstones Wolverhampton. This is the only place to get signed copies at the moment so if you’re local pop in and grab one. (But make sure you take it to the till after grabbing it.)

Weekend read: I Will Ruin You, the new one by one of my favourite authors, Linwood Barclay. Richard is a teacher who averts a tragedy at his school but finds himself entangled with a group of local criminals. Fast paced, fun and unpredictable. It’s out 18 July in the UK (Amazon has the wrong ...publication date).

Thank you to everyone who came to the party. Of course, Peggy showed up two minutes after I finished!

Today's the day! The Darkest Water is out now! Available as an ebook, paperback or audiobook, you'll find it in Amazon stores worldwide. You can also ask your local book shop or library to order it in. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Darkest-Water-Mark-Edwards-ebook/dp/B0CC6V1HS6

Calvin... finally owns the bakery of his dreams, in an idyllic village in the Lake District. After reluctantly following his wife Vicky’s advice to promote it on social media, he’s thrilled when a viral clip makes him a legend overnight. But then the creepy DMs start flooding in—all from a stranger who claims she’s his biggest fan.

Meanwhile, a local recluse is found on a nearby beach, buried to his neck and left to drown, and the community goes into shock. Why would anyone want him dead? And who exactly was he? Detective Imogen Evans, new to the Lake District, is under pressure to find out before the killer strikes again.

As the murder hunt gathers pace, Calvin’s obsessive admirer turns up right on cue after his assistant is injured in an accident, and to Vicky’s horror she’s here to stay. As events begin spiralling into darkness, is there anyone in this quiet backwater Calvin can trust—or have his mistakes already put him, and everyone he loves, in terrible danger?
