My life’s work! These are all my solo books, from The Magpies (2013) to this year‘s One of the Family. So many words. So many cats, redheads, ‘from hell’ situations, twists, creepy woods and psychopaths. How many have you read and which are your favourites?

Proof that I can work anywhere. Sitting outside a cafe on one of Wolverhampton’s most traffic-choked streets, grappling with my timeline while I wait for my car to have its MOT. This is what being a professional writer is all about. No ivory towers. Just a lot of hard work. Although I really wish writing fairies existed so they could tell me how to reshuffle these chapters so no one on Goodreads calls this book a slow burn!
Can’t resist jumping on the ‘This was me in the 80s’ trend because I found these photos in a drawer earlier this week. It was 1989, I was obsessed with The Cure, Stephen King and, um, Transvision Vamp (I still think ‘Baby I Don’t Care is one of the all-time great songs and one of my favourites to do at karaoke). Yes I wore eyeliner, including to school and to the food-packing factory where I worked during the summer holidays, and spent a LOT of time crimping and back-combing my hair. I got through a ton of Silvikrin extra strength hairspray. Sigh… The first pic was taken by @davidals in the glamorous environs of Spud-U-Like in Hastings (jacket potato with cheese and beans), and the second in my bedroom at home. I had already written one novel at this point, but it was terrible and is long lost… It had quite a good twist though!
Really fun night with the Bridgnorth Book Club. Such a lovely, enthusiastic group of readers in a gorgeous wine bar that made me wish I wasn’t driving home!

Really fun event in beautiful Ironbridge (setting of The Lucky Ones) last night. Thank you to everyone who came along and to Angie at @theagencyironbridge for organising it and making me feel v welcome. The Agency is a really cool detective-themed cafe and wine bar. There’s also the amazing Ironbridge Books just across the road. Easily one of the best places to visit in the Midlands.
